The team

The Sponsor:
Merl Solar Technologies GmbH

Merl Solar Technologies GmbH is an Austrian company operating in the field of renewable energy.

The Developer:
Witech Africa

The Witech team leads the co-development of the project and ensures the coordination among its various stakeholders, primarily focusing on the waste and technological aspects.

The Technology Provider: MARTIN

For more than 100 years, MARTIN GmbH has been one of the world’s pioneers in the energy recovery of waste. Born in Germany, MARTIN technology today equips more than 1,200 treatment lines around the world, making the Group one of the historical references in the Waste-to-Energy sector in terms of performance, reliability and sustainability.

With the acquisition of LAB S.A., one of the European leaders in flue gas treatment, MARTIN now covers all the key technologies of an energy recovery plant: waste combustion, energy recovery and flue gas treatment.

MARTIN technologies have proven themselves in the most demanding markets. Present in hundreds of installations in Europe, they also equip the energy recovery plant in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, which remains to this day the only installation of this type in operation in Africa, as well as several reference installations in the Middle East and Asia, notably in the United Arab Emirates, Thailand, Vietnam and India.

Created in 2017 with the CNIM Group, a historical partner of MARTIN in Europe, MARTIN Technologies Private Limited, formerly CNIM MARTIN Private Limited, is now fully integrated into the MARTIN Group. Based in India, it brings the expertise and technologies of MARTIN and LAB — incineration, boilers and flue gas treatment — to the high-growth markets of Asia and beyond, adapting them to local specificities without ever compromising on the Group’s standards of performance, reliability and sustainability.

Thanks to the industrialization in India of its technologies and equipment, MARTIN thus combines proven European technology, world-class engineering and local industrial competitiveness, in order to provide emerging markets with high-performance, reliable Waste-to-Energy solutions adapted to their needs.

The MARTIN reverse-acting grate incineration technology (“Reverse-Acting Grate”) is particularly suited to the characteristics of the waste encountered in Senegal, notably its low calorific value and high heterogeneity. Proven under comparable conditions in numerous installations around the world, this technology has thus been selected for the Touba project to ensure stable and reliable combustion adapted to the local characteristics of the waste.

The EPC:
CNEEC (China National Electric Engineering Company Ltd)

The Group has already successfully collaborated with CNIM MARTIN as a technology provider on several projects.

The Local Contractor:
Ecosalubre

Ecosalubre specializes in a wide range of activities that cover the entire integrated waste management chain.

The Waste Management Operator:
SONAGED

SONAGED is the new company responsible for waste management at the national level, replacing the Solid Waste Coordination and Management Unit (UCG).

The Energy Provider :
Senelec

The management of SENELEC, along with the Ministry of Energy, has expressed interest in the project by securing a 15% stake in the Touba SPV.
