Collection of waste

Environmental Threats

The situation with waste and the resulting pollution, the overflow of the landfill, and the contamination of groundwater places the city of Touba and its surroundings in an environmental emergency, worsened by the harm to the surrounding wildlife.

Creation of Collection Points

To have a positive environmental impact, the solutions involving waste valorization and recycling within the CIVD must be preceded by an improvement in the collection system throughout the entire metropolitan area. To this end, the group in charge of the project has committed to renovating the 7 existing standardized Waste Collection Points (WCP) and establishing an entire collection network by adding 93 additional WCPs dispersed across the metropolitan area. These WCPs will incorporate all the selective collection features defined in the CSR program according to the strictest and most appropriate standards for local specificities. Each WCP will create 15 to 16 jobs, meaning that the entire program for the collection phase represents the creation of 1500 sustainable jobs.

A Participatory Collection

The project promoter has also proposed to build the 93 additional PRNs to maximize pre-collection and waste sorting. A hundred young people will be equipped with carts (with their harnesses) to collect waste in the outskirts of Touba. The harnesses will serve as tools for waste transport management, fitting into a micro-economic development strategy for the most disadvantaged social categories of Touba.
