Senelec's grid

With the global energy crisis, Senegal—heavily dependent on fossil fuels—and SENELEC are facing significant increases in imported fuel costs. The waste-to-energy project in Touba, with its 10 MWe output, is expected to provide substantial savings for SENELEC and a positive impact on the state’s balance of payments.

For the Touba project, SENELEC has requested the project developers to conduct a final Integration Study for connecting the power plant to the local grid. They suggested wheeling of the power through a dedicated line directly to a new station currently under construction, located only 3.5 km from the Integrated Waste Recovery Center (CIVD).

Slide In accordance with Law No. 98-29 of April 14, 1998, regarding the electricity sector, SENELEC has a monopoly on electricity transmission throughout the national territory. Its network is well developed, including in the municipalities of Mbacké and Touba.
Also, SENELEC boasts a strong financial position compared to other national operators in the region. They also want and encourage a better energy mix.
